There are no shadows in Taylor Slater’s life—not one chilling above her because her father is pro surfer Kelly Slater, nor any spotted in her ocean-inspired resin and acrylic wood paintings. Instead, they’re strikingly shiny and bright, which is exactly how we’d describe Taylor, too.
“Selling my first painting online proved to me that I could be an artist and do something that I love forever,” says the 23-year-old. “My first show in August 2018 in NYC sold out in a few hours, and was the first time I ever had enough courage to show my art in person.”
Now, with various shows to her name, including one in Hawaii (”What?!”) and an upcoming one in Orlando, FL on November 21, there’s no stopping @taylrsltr. Here, her #captioninterview:

Waikiki, because it's just so classic. Call me basic, but I think it's way fun. People surf there just to have a good time and it's never too serious.
Feel Like a Beach Babe In:
@supergoop matte SPF is the best! @consciouscoconut oil all over me. Always wearing my dad's girlfriend's brand, @mikoh, or @acacia. Also, some sunnies and a @slowtide beach towel. And I never forget my film point-and-shoot.
Frothing For Après Surf:
In high school, I was voted "foodie" in the yearbook (still not sure if I should be proud or embarrassed). In Hawaii, my current go-to is always a poké bowl from @pokeforthepeople in Waialua, Oahu. In Miami, the vegan restaurant @plantasouthbeach is actually the best ever. In NYC, I always have to go to @thebutchersdaughter_official.
Give Love to the Oceans By:
For the majority of my art shows, I‘ve joined with @lonelywhale to auction off a painting and raise funds toward cleaning and protecting our oceans. I try to use the least plastic possible. Also, I’m a vegan; by only eating plant-based foods, I’m working against agricultural pollution and overfishing.
