#CaptionInterview: Carla Zamora, longboarder, surf coach & owner of The Surf Institute

Carla Zamora, 42, is a petite powerhouse, packing a ton of personality and world-class longboarding talent into an impressively tiny frame.

But don’t underestimate this boss B. As a surf coach and owner of @thesurfinstitute, Carla has taught some legends their signature moves, including the Peruvian longboard team—who won gold at the 2017 Pan Am Games under Carla’s guidance—and pro longboarder @chloecalmon, who had 11 out of 12 podium finishes last year. 🏆

Now, @carlafina is sharing her hang ten tips with the masses via @thesurfinstitute’s lecture-style workshops and individual video consulting (just film yourself attempting toes to the nose, and she’ll give you feedback). “While these methods are a bit new for people to wrap their heads around, I’ve had nothing but positive feedback from participants,” Carla says.

Here, @carlafina glides through our #captioninterview (and yes, she makes everything look easy):

Hometown:
Malibu

Fave Surf Spot:
First Point Malibu will always hold a special place in my heart because it's where I’m rooted. Most know it for the aggressive and crowded lineup, but it's the most amazing place on quiet days... you can almost hear the ghost voices from years past. I've always been fascinated by Malibu's rich history and the story of its matriarch, May K Rindge, and her fight against the establishment to hold onto her pristine rancho oasis. History buffs and locals will definitely enjoy David Randall’s book, The King and Queen of Malibu!

Feel Like a Beach Babe In:
In California, I’m pretty much stuck in a fullsuit all year long when surfing. However, when I’m at my home away from home in the Philippines, I get to wear all my great swimsuits from @carvedesigns. I feel like a sexy, svelte superhero in the Inverness One-Piece.

Frothing For Après Surf:
Sushi or poke... I‘m mad for albacore!

Give Love to the Oceans By:
Teaching others how to respect it, and how to share it with each other.

Good-Vibes-for-Life Motto:
Do unto others as you would have done to you.
